Defining Fate and Divination by ~TheSilverBlood:iconTheSilverBlood:

It has come to the attention of many that divination into the future seems to be an imprecise and volatile thing. This can be mostly attributed to the fact that many do not believe that the future is set. They muddle it with thoughts of choice and action. If some or all can choose what is set out before them is obvious to all, but debatable to many for some reason. To look at the truth behind divination you must look at what has been set out before, because by understanding our past and present, you may see the future. Everything since the clash of the first two cosmic forces and the beginning of the beginning has been determined in that one infinitely small moment.

Now most would say that the future is determined by the choices and actions of the current state of things and everything that preceded the present state. This is obvious because, as anyone can see, the world is made of choices and clashes between forces. The past made the present and because of the present we make the choices we do. The future is determined by our choices, but the only way that you could see the if this is true is by either knowing by some mystic sense what the outcome will be or by understanding our past and present to an extent that you can understand what will come next. Lets examine this more closely.

Wiether or not you believe that there is a begining to everything or not is irrelevant, understand that there was a beginning to what we currently know as everything, it is important that we have that basis. By the definition of existence, there had to be a beginning, it just depends on how you define it. What happened in the beginning also is irrelevant for this part of the understanding, that is a topic that will probably be discussed in later essays. In the beginning everything that exists was set into motion. There is no way to tell if it was instantaneously created in its current state or a state that is set any length of time in the past and there is also no way to prove that it all started with nothing and then expanded outward. Either way when everything was set into motion, it started happening in a certain way, and through each reaction followed a logical path. This idea is important because if you could trace each and every simultaneous action/reaction you could predict what logically was going to happen next.

Then you reach a bit of a jump. There are generally two accepted ways to look at fate in modern society. You can say that each person defines their own fate, that no one can see the future because there is no way to tell what choice they will make or you can say that fate is predetermined and that we are controlled by it, this would mean you can see the future if you can some how tap into this fate impulse or somehow see this "master plan" or "big picture." You could say that there are also variations on the two in many peoples minds, that some people can choose or that some actions are chosen by us and others chosen by fate. The third is where most people stand because they don't like the idea of extremes. To say they have no control scares them and to say they have complete control puts too much pressure on their decisions all the time. There is a fourth way of looking at it. As a German philosopher once explained if we look at all of our actions, tracing them back to the beginning of us and before our existence, life could have only happened how it has. Since the first action/reaction happened, everything happened in the only way it could have because that's the way it did happen. This is a little bit to wrap your mind around but meditation and thought on the subject usually brings an understanding and belief that the fourth option is not only most probable, but it is logically the only way to explain fate.

Divination of the future is still an inexact art, for many reasons. There is one missing piece that makes divination possible or impossible. Is there anything in our minds that could allow us to see on such a grand scale that we would be able to guess or even visualize what is going to happen? It seems that there are a few ways to go about trying to do such an enormous task that even seem plausible. If there is a collective unconscious or a universal knowledge that is able to be tapped into, if we accept the previous assumption that everything could only happen the way it is happening because it is happening that way, then this universal knowlege would contain knowledge of the future as well as the present and the past. I have many theories on the collective unconscious and universal knowledge that will most likely be discussed in other essays as well, but I digress. The other way which seems more probable is to feel what is going to happen next. Many would ask how this is even remotely plausible as an explanation and how it could be more probable than the idea of tapping into the collective unconscious. That is also a topic for another discussion, which I will address soon.

Honestly, I like the Essay. Its good, a good plot and truth divulging behind the fine line of fate and human existence. Remember that fate, like you said, is what one makes of it therefore fate could also be determined by each person subconsciously as a collective whole with the rest of the world. Therefore if one could make everyone else believe in one path then it may become a truth to our eyes.

This being said, if one made it possible for everyone to believe that Fate was some escapable loop in the fabric of reality then Divination is possible because it would be apart of that collective thinking. But the opposite is also true to make Divination possible though it would be more chaotic in nature.

I fully believe that Divination is possible, but it can only really be done on a Small scale and also there are a million and one ways fate could turn, twist, and fold in the fabric of Reality. Divination would define the most probably, most logical, or easiest path that Fate could take.

Its kind of like your RPG game we played back home. Where Matt made everyone believe the Super Brain Mocho man was not in the Arena, he created a shift in the fabric of reality because reality is really what we perceive it as. Therefore Fate has just changed.

Hahaha Thinking like this is fun xP I hope to see a lot more. It defiantly made me think a bit too xP.

Here's a good question for everyone: We all recognize we have a free will, but are our actions predestined, predetermined? If so, that means the future is set - so what's the purpose of a free will?

:iconzeeblee:
If everything we do is predetermined then there is no free will because we can't choose. We think we choose, but that choice was predetermined, thus taking our own will out of the equation.

That's why I don't believe in divination.

divination does not tell you what is going to happen, but can open you up to other possible paths in life
